Paint Chip Gift Boxes

Hello!

I found an adorable gift box on Pinterest to make:

The picture directions were really easy to follow, even though the written ones were in Chinese.  Since I was making them, I figured I would make directions in English!  Here goes!  I started by using two paint chips, a cutterpede (you can use scissors, but I like the cutterpede way better), scissors, a ruler, a pencil and clear tape:

Don’t make fun of my kid scissors.  Here is how to make the gift box:

Cut half an inch off the top and bottom of the first paint chip, so you have a 5” square.

Mark 1.5” from both edges on parallel sides, then cut a 1.5” line from each mark.

Fold the space between the cuts to divide the paint chip into three columns.

Fold along the end of the cuts so that each column is divided into three sections.

Turn over and bring the end sections behind the middle sections.

Tape the edges together.

Congratulations on making the box!  Ready for the lid?

Here goes:

Cut 1 9/16” (1 ½+1/16) off the top and bottom the second paint chip. (In the picture, I managed to not follow my own directions.  If yours looks different from mine, that’s just as well.  The idea is to get the main section to 3 1/8”.)

Cut 1 7/8” off the left side.

Mark 0.5” from the edge on parallel sides, then cut a 0.5” line.

Fold just like you folded the box.

Turn over and bring the end sections behind the middle sections.

Tape the edges together.

YAY!  You’ve done it!  Congratulations!  The box is adorable!

I hope this is helpful!  Have fun making cute little paint chip boxes.  A quick note: if you use paint chips that only have three colors, the only white lines that show will be on the edges of the box.

Have a fantastic Christmas!
